Green Cardamom

Green cardamom, often referred to as green elaichi or elakka, is a highly aromatic, premium spice derived from the seeds of the Elettaria cardamomum plant, part of the ginger family. It is widely considered the "Queen of Spices" due to its intense aroma, unique flavor, and versatility in both sweet and savory dishes.

Antioxidants: High in antioxidants and believed to help in detoxification.

Quality Indicators

Appearance: Bright green color; yellow or brown pods indicate older stock or poor drying.

Texture: Firm and slightly elastic pods, not hollow or extremely dry.

Aroma: Strong, sweet, and aromatic aroma without opening the pod.

Origin: Kerala, India (especially Idukki region) is renowned for high-quality, authentic green cardamom.

Storage Advice

It is best to store cardamom in whole pod form, as the ground seeds lose their aroma and flavor quickly. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 1-2 years.
